Biography:
Kareem Lotfy was born and lives in Egypt. He grew up in a heavily religious Muslim family where he was heavily subjected to foreign cultures due to the advent of mass communication and was interested and amused at the heady mix of Middle Eastern & Western cultures in his native land. In particular he is fascinated at the ease that foreign influence prevails because of, in his own words. 'the lack of an original contemporary middle eastern culture as none of our ancient ideologies was able to develop or renew'. His work is his way of recording this sudden clash and its impact on both the local traditions and the imported ones.
His working methods are varied and can range from, screen printing, stenciling, oil painting and hand illustration through to various digital disciplines.
